Mechanism of operation:
These optical liquid level sensors consist of an infrared LED and a photovoltaic within a prism. The two striped wires power the LED. The red and yellow wires produce the voltage (0 to 500 mW). When the prism is immersed in liquid the light from the LED escapes and voltage from the sensor is low. When the prism is not submerged, the refractive index of the air is too high for the light from the LED to escape efficiently. This light illuminates the photovoltaic and the voltage output increases. This listing is for a two units.
